The Role
As an engineer working in a project management role, it was less technical than I would have liked. Though my networking and social skills have certainly benefitted and I can't fault the people that work here for a second. They're all so helpful and lovely, and do their best to make sure you're kept engaged.
Very much so. I was given responsibility for some projects almost exclusively which affected the whole company, and I've been fairly instrumental in lots of daily business.
All help required is readily available, either by asking someone or looking for yourself. Any courses you think would be beneficial to you either for work purposes, or just for personal development are available to everyone.
Always kept busy, though not to the point where I couldn't complete my work on time. Working in a team means the workload can be spread should anyone find themselves too busy
The first thing that surprised me when taking the job here was the amount of responsibility given to all the placement students. Each one is treated like a member of staff and is accountable for themselves. Suitably impressed,
Many of the more technical skills will assist me in my degree, along with all the team working and interpersonal skills I've acquired. Some of the applications of business processes will also help to streamline some of the work I'll have in future, both in groups and individually. I've also picked up some great habits while at work, including recording everything that goes on in a day in my logbook, and just generally being more organized.
The Company
Upbeat and vibrant. People always have time to chat, and a lot to chat about.
Extremely well structured and organized. Proper inductions are set up and they were very accommodating with any university meetings that were required.
More than I deserve. There's a branch of HR that deals specifically with development and learning, and is available to all members of the company. I advise everyone takes full advantage of this.

If I came back I'd take a graduate job in a more technical role. I've been told that I'll be kept up to date on any graduate jobs that come up personally. Nissan don't make a point of offering placements students jobs, but instead give them special consideration when applying as graduates.
The Culture
With ~40 placement students in the social scene was fairly strong. Nights out in MK were not unheard of and many students got involved in activities outside of the workplace.
A fairly weak point in my books, I lived quite some distance away so couldn't really get involved in the social side as much. I've also no idea what the living costs are like around here.
MK and Bedford both have decent nightlife, though the people I know favour Northampton instead.
Lot's of sports and socials clubs operate throughout the year, including a motorsports society that would get a company car to travel to races in this country, and a snow sports society that goes to the snow dome in MK every other week.
