The Role
I had a great time at Redgate. I quickly felt part of the team there and was able to work on the same things that everyone in the team was dealing with. Alongside the day to day work I was also given my own project to work on, meaning that now I have finished I have something to show for my efforts there. There was also a great social side to the company. There are clubs to join and a lot of free benefits including days out and evening activities and of course free lunch. I couldn't recommend this internship more.
I felt highly valued by my colleagues. They were always keen to hear my opinion and I was just treated like any other team member.
If I ever needed help with anything someone was always willing to give me advice. I spent some time shadowing other people at the start of my internship as part of training. As I became more confident I was given space to try things for myself and ask questions whenever I needed.
Once I had been given my own project I had plenty to do. By switching between the day to day tasks of answering support calls and working on my project, there was something to work on most of the time. The workload wasn't stressful, it was a good balance.
I was responsible for my own project and the support calls I chose to pick up. The team trusted me to get on with my work just as everyone else was.
In terms of my degree, I learnt a new programming language and it kept me practising what I have previously learnt. In terms of beyond uni it has given me an incite into what working for a tech company of this size is like. I have also learnt a lot about working in a support team, which will be valuable for my future career.
The Company
Everyone is very friendly. It's a fun working environment, good amount of office banter and always the opportunity for a Nerf battle or a game of Mario Kart if you want a break from work.
The internship was pretty well organised. I didn't know to much about what I was going to be doing before I arrived. However once I arrived there was a good introductory period and my manager organised things for me to be working on.
Spent a week working closely with different people on the team to learn about the various products. Training was perhaps a bit low level, but I think just trying stuff is the best way to learn and I was able to do that easily.

I would love to work for the company in the future. The company is hiring and new people start each week. There isn't a direct recruitment from internships program or grad scheme but the experience gained form working here will significantly help my prospects should I apply for a job in the future.
The Culture
The intens meet up for lunch each week and we've had a couple of nights out on the company. It just depends how much you organise.
Cambridge is quite expensive, rent wasn't too high for me but it can be hard to find somewhere to live. Eating/drinking out was quite pricey but travel is cheap, you can cycle everywhere. The intenship pays well and with free breakfast and lunch you don't need to buy much food.
There are plenty of pubs. I haven't been out in Cambridge that much.
Yeah there are plenty of sports clubs and social groups within the organisation and in the town. Everything I wanted to be involved in I was able to find.
