The Role
I have thoroughly enjoyed my time at Centrica. From the start of my placement, I was well supported by my team and the Graduate team. I was given plenty of work to start with.
I was given great responsibility by my team to lead important projects. This showed that my team valued my input.
Despite my manager working regularly away from the office, I met with manager once a week in person and have regular phone 1-2-1s.
Overall, I had plenty of work to be doing. However, Centrica seem to be very good at ensuring a good work/life balance.
I was given plenty of responsibility, suitable for a summer internship. I worked closely with and presented to many senior members of staff. I also led some key projects for the company.
I believe they will greatly help me with studies as they have developed my presentation skills, time management and professionalism. Looking beyond my degree, I feel they will greatly assist me. Having worked for Centrica, a top 100 graduate employer, I feel that this should be well recognised. What I have learnt from the job, specific and transferrable skills, will be of great use to me.
The Company
The Centrica office atmosphere is a very enjoyable one. It is never too loud or frantic that you can't work. People are left to self-manage and given appropriate space to think. There was also things going on such as BBQs which helped add to the atmosphere. Of course, it is a corporate office so it wasn't possible for it to always be lively.
It was very well organised. The Graduate Team were regularly in contact leading up to the start date and arranged many events throughout. This included a Development Day which was a great experience.
I feel they invested well in me for the 10 weeks. It is tricky to do much in that time but we had a development day and I attended the two day new starters training too. I also undertook several personality tests to help understand my development and self better.

Summer Placements are given an opportunity to demonstrate why they should move onto the Graduate scheme. I am greatly hoping that I am successful as I wish to stay with the company.
The Culture
Vey good social scene - we lived together and we regularly got together for dinners, events etc.
Cost of living was covered by Centrica so made living very easy. Socialising was quite expensive given that it was near to London but still manageable.
It was fairly good. We were happy for the 10 weeks we were there for.
Plenty - volunteering, sporting events, social media.
