The Role
The tasks I was given were carefully chosen for me to gain the most in the short amount of time available, whilst also being interesting and of the appropriate level of challenge.
My team conduct the majority of their work as a team, and I was given tasks which directly aided towards our key deliverables. Outside of the tasks and deadlines required to be output by the team, we were also very social, including team trips, bakeoff etc.
I was able to ask any questions, and all members of my team and management were very generous with their time to help me out.
I intially found the changing levels of workload unfamiliar compared to university study, but I never felt over/underworked and was able to choose further tasks or help out members of my team if I had any free time.
Several of my tasks and projects had/will have large impacts on the team and also on the wider Centrica group, particularly my work towards the interim results and strategic review, which I felt like I had a good level of input into.
Everything I have learned will help me towards a successful career in finance, and has also helped me to decide on future career aspirations. I have also improved on my learning style which will help during my next two years of University.
The Company
There is a very strong community feel in the office; whilst also not being too distracting. I was surprised at how friendly everybody is, and how much of an interest people have taken into what I am doing during and after my placement.
I was given clear objectives and supported all the way through by my line manager, with several events set up for my benefit. The general summer placement also has several workshops and the summer placement team are very good at keeping us informed and up to date with what is going on.
I was offered many opportunities to develop during the placement, and there were also many training sessions and talks set up to directly enhance our career performance and prospects.

The graduate scheme is very attractive, with 3 years of different placements allowing a graduate to develop the skills needed for a career in finance and the energy industry.
The Culture
Being in halls accomodation made socialising very easy and enjoyable, with many events set up to help us get to know each other.
The only issue was travel which was quite expensive since the accomodation was not in a very central location.
I personally didn't see much of the nightlife but have heard it is good from colleagues and other interns.
Charity challenge provided many opportunities to organise/attend events and also to volunteer. There are classes offered at the gym and other non-work based lunchtime activities.
