The Role
I enjoyed my internship significantly; the range of opportunities I was given really helped me gain great levels of insight into where I see myself working in the future.
I genuinely felt a part of my team; both on a professional and social level. The roles I was given held weight with regards to the projects success and felt that the decisions I made really had a bearing on the direction of the task.
I feel the support network within was great in terms of individuals willingness to help, however, in certain areas, communication was a bit of an issue, causing problems to drag on longer than they should.
Usually, I had at least two projects I was working on, on any given day; supplemented by a number of meetings. Occasionally, I would have a 'slow day' but these were pretty far and few between.
In many cases, I was given tasks of quite great significance to carry out without supervision (e.g. producing part of a deck that would be presented at an executive committee meeting). There were one or two tasks that felt quite unimportant, however, in the grand scheme of things, they were necessary.
I feel my time at Barclays has sharpened a lot of the skills I have picked up throughout uni; giving me skills that can easily be transferred back onto my course.
The Company
The office I was placed in had quite a vibrant, laid-back feel to it. There was no-one breathing down your neck to get work done, although work of a high standard was still expected.
At the start of the internship, there were a number of technical and communication issues that made the set-up process quite difficult. However, once these issues were sorted, the rest of the internship went pretty smoothly.
During the two day induction, we did a few pretty standard training exercises. There were a number of oppurtinites for further development throughout the internship which were pretty decent.
Subsidised Canteen
Barclays definitely seems like a great place to start off ones career; with such a wide expanse of opportunities on offer, you can't go wrong. The ethos pushed throughout the business is evident through how I was treated and I would be more than happy to continue here.
