    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • The placement experience as a whole was very insightful. It allowed me to experience the nuances of a professional working environment. As with all jobs, diversity in the role could be an issue from time to time, leading to periods of boredom. There were company drinks once a month on average which was a perk of the job.

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • I was relied upon heavily and treated like an Executive rather than a placement student. Each individual is judged upon the merit of their own abilities. Those who prove through the quaity of their work that they are able, are given more responsibility and diverse tasks.

    4/5

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • I had 5 managers over a period of 11 months. Managers consistently left the business as they were contractors. After 3 months, I was the most experienced member of staff working in my particular area. It was a challenge in bringing each new manager up to speed with the process and also giving them bedding in time. As a result, I often had to 'carry', new starters along and take on heavier workloads.

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • Often I was very busy. Work came in 2 hour spurts. 2 hours of work and 45 minutes of downtime on average. A very nice balance.

    4/5

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • Due to the major turnover of managers, I was often responsible for production of major pieces of work.

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • Taught me how to remain professional in the workplace when dealing with 'problem' people, gave me an example of company culture, saw examples of macro and micro management, increased PC literacy, increase organisational and communicational skills and got paid a lovely sum in the process!

    5/5

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • Mellow, work orientated, low buzz of noise in the background. Mainly just put your headphones in and get on with the work. Birthdays were celebrated in the oasis where everyone gathered for cake for 5 minutes to wish the person happy birthday.

    3/5

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • Placement co ordinator changed half way through the year. The new placement co ordinator never met us once. We were assigned to departments based upon the answers we gave in the interview stage. We were then assigned to jobs without taking into consideration our preferences. Placement students are treated as executives. There is no tailored 'Scheme' in place to enhance individual skill sets or to give you targets.

    2/5

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • Online courses are available but chances are that you wont have enough time within your day to do them as you will be busy with other things.

    2/5

  • 10. What were the perks on your work placement?
  • Subsidised Canteen

    Subsidised/Company Gym

    Company Parties/Events

    Staff Sales/Staff Shop

    4/5

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • Would love to come back and work here in the future. Been a valuable experience and I have lots more to offer.

    4/5

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • So So. Once every 6 weeks on average, the placement students would meet up to go for a drink.

    3/5

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • Rent was about 430 a month, average cost of a pint is 3.60 - 4.80. London life isnt cheap

    3/5
