About You
I enjoyed being taken on site visits and got on well with the team I was working in.
I did more towards the end of the internship once I'd gotten to know the team a bit better.
Some members of the team were incredibly helpful and gave me a lot of guidance, and while others were helpful too, coming from a different degree background, at the start I felt a little overwhelmed with all the lingo that wasn't explained to me straight away!
I think that the general commercial insight will help me in my degree and afterwards, and I loved experiencing working in Colmore Row business district generally. I have also learnt a lot about the language used and approach taken by commercial agents, which would be very helpful for me if I were to enter this field of work.
The Company
Although I enjoyed it very much, I don't feel as though there was much of a structure, as some days there was barely any work for me to do at all, and there didn't seem to be one particular person on the team overseeing my internship and work load, which I feel may have been helpful.
I got on with everyone really well, and everyone was friendly and approachable within my team and in the office generally.
I was taken on several sight visits, which I found to be very helpful in learning about the job, as well as enjoyable in the sense of having a break from desk work. The team PA took a lot of time to go through everything with me about how to use the computer systems, and the methods used in producing reports for example.
I feel like I got a very clear view of the job, and was taken out with people of different levels and roles to get an insight from different angles. I think that the four week length was helpful for this, and different weeks varied as to work load etc.
As I spent a lot of time with the office manager, I could see the work that goes into organising social activities, work dos and activities within the office to boost morale. I experienced the very social and friendly atmosphere of the company.
It was helpful in helping me to decide, as I got to experience various roles first hand, and was told by several team members what each role involves.
Everything Else
This paid very well.
There were individual team social events, and a social was organised for the interns, however, this was in London on a week night, which wasn't very convenient for those in the other offices. I think that it may be better if there were more social events for the interns in each office to get to know each other while they are there.
We went for meals as a team, and I met others on site visits, however there were no specific events named as networking opportunities.
Yes. As I spent time with the office manager, I saw her organising activities such as an employee sports day, which I thought was a good idea.
I would recommend it to those considering a career in property, as you do get a flavour of what the job entails in good detail.
