    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • My internship overall was amazing! Everyone is so friendly and outgoing - always ready to help you if you have a question. A lot of events, a lot of interesting work and opportunities to find out what suits you best.

    5/5

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • It is as if you have been working there for years - you can see the impact of the work you are given. Your colleagues would rely on you as they would on anyone else. The atmosphere is very easygoing and supportive!

    5/5

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • All of my managers were very approachable and supportive. They would normally come to me with a problem that needs to be solved instead of with a particular set of tasks. I was given the freedom to choose how to approach any task whilst they made sure I have all the resources I need to be able to do my work efficiently.

    5/5

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • Some days I would be more busy than others but in general I had enough to do so that time flies by and I would be quite surprised to see that it is 5 o'clock already. My managers gave me a lot of freedom to manage my own time whilst making sure that I am not getting overworked. You can always say that you have some spare time or you have a lot on your plate at the moment - the perfect balance.

    5/5

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • I was given enough responsibility to feel the satisfaction of my work and see that it actually matters to other people. It is not just that intern thing no one cares about. The nature of my work meant that a lot of people would not only see the result but use it daily. On the other hand, your managers will always keep an eye and make sure you are comfortable with the levels of responsibility you are given - the more you want and can handle - the more you would be given.

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • I developed a wide range of skills most of which technical and directly related to my degree, the rest were business and soft skills relevant not just in my studies but in any other work area. There is a huge library of online courses available as well helping you focus on your interests and prepare yourself for the final year at uni.

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • Everyone is so friendly and approachable. The office is open plan making it much easier and more convenient to go and speak to different people. As an intern you have a lot of questions - everyone is more than happy to answer them or if they can't - refer you to someone who can. In addition, people were so easygoing - there was always something happening, you can always hear someone having a laugh - incredible!

    5/5

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • I was very well organised - you get assigned a buddy who can answer your general questions and most technical ones as they are working in your area. Your managers would already have some work in mind. There were a lot of events - all of which well planned and having a different purpose. And you do not need to do anything in terms of organisation of your internship - it has all been taken care of.

    5/5

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • There are a lot of internal and external courses available to further develop both soft and technical skills. The company was more than happy to pay for external training when necessary. I did not need to take advantage of that, nonetheless it was available to me as it was to every intern.

    4/5

  • 10. What were the perks on your work placement?
  • Flexi Time

    Subsidised Canteen

    Sports and Social Club

    Company Parties/Events

    Above 25 days holiday

    Working from home

    5/5

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • Even for the brief time of the internship you can see that the organisation is growing and that there are a lot of interesting opportunities and roles. I did my placement there last year and I did an internship this summer. I already have an idea of the role I would like to apply to for the graduate scheme.

    5/5

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • There were a lot of other interns/placements/graduates and we would often go for a meal at lunch or drinks after work. This was the case with my other colleagues where we would often go somewhere towards the end of the week.

    5/5

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • London's super-center is not the cheapest place to live or socialize in. Nonetheless, socializing is affordable as the company is well aware of its location and this is reflected in the pay rates. I lived like 20 mins away from the office and the prices were not bad at all - it just takes a bit of research before moving in.

    4/5

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • It is not rare for Central London to hear people giving directions based on where a bar or a club is and the reason is that there are so many of them - the variety is huge and there is always a place you have not been to.

    5/5

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • All sorts of social, charity and sport events being organised all the time. It does not really matter what you are interested in - there will always be the right sort of event for you! You can take it as far as you wish and you can actually get funded by the company. The work and life balance is definitely one of the things cherished and encouraged by M&G.
