The Role
I really enjoyed my internship throughout it's entirety; my team were very receptive to new team members which created a great atmosphere to work in.
The projects I worked on had a genuine impact to clients and colleagues alike, so this helped.
My manager gave more than sufficient support throughout the internship, but didn't micro-manage me which is something I respected.
I personally never had 'downtime', other than in the first two weeks which were predominatly shadowing.
As mentioned, I was given projects that had a genuine impact to clients and colleagues so there was nautrally a high pressure to deliver.
My degree is Financial Maths so I got to see things from a practical, real-life perspective.
The Company
I liked the atmosphere; you could easily have a laugh with colleagues but when work needed to get done things were more serious.
I was pretty organised; events were organised throughout the internship as well as networking opportunities across the bank.
You could take online courses but the majority of learning I did was by getting stuck in with projects and taking on additional tasks.
Flexi Time
Subsidised Canteen
Sports and Social Club
Financial Bonus
Company Parties/Events
Above 25 days holiday
Working from home
Definitely considering a career within Barclays; they have a high retention rate of interns too.
The Culture
Could easily build relationships with fellow interns and ended up going out a few times.
Reasonably expensive (I lived in East London) but as long as you budget well you'll be fine.
Dead at the weekend but during the week after work it was pretty busy (Canary Wharf).
Yes; played football at lunchtimes. A lot of activities outside of work were organised by the interns themselves.
