The Role
Really enjoyed it - a great first insight into the financial sector for me.
I feel as if I made a contribution, but could have perhaps done more exciting and fulfilling tasks.
My manager + team were very welcoming and approachable from the start. They were always free to give me advice any time I needed it.
There were some days where I wasn't very busy at all, but overall it wasn't too bad.
Some, but not a lot. Would have liked to have been given a bit more.
Improving my time management skills will help me in university, while building my excel skills up from scratch will definitely help in further employment.
The Company
Very relaxed and collaborative, loved that aspect.
In the finance department, the internship wasn't that well constructed. While other interns in different business units had a long project to work on, I felt I was just being given odd-jobs whenever they needed to be done - not a terrible thing, but would have like a longer project. In fairness this was one of the first years they've done an organised internship scheme in the Finance department, so I'd imagine this will improve.
I feel the company are very committed to training and investing in new employees. We were given insight sessions into all sides of the business, which were very good, and most employees here are very willing to meet you if you have any questions for them.
Very appealing - I can definitely see myself working here and would absolutely love to gain a graduate place.
The Culture
Within the Finance department us four interns sat together and became very good friends. Made other friends from different areas, but as a whole could have been better. However, this is probably more of a reflection on the personalities and willingness of this years interns and not of the company - HR did a good job in organising social events.
I go to university in London so luckily I didn't have to relocate and just stayed in the same university housing I'd stayed in for the last year. Rent is obviously expensive compared to other parts of the country - I pay around £150 a week in Hammersmith and would be even more if it was closer to central London where the offices are. However the social scene around central London is always brilliant; the pubs around the offices are always packed after work.
Anything you want to do, you can do it somewhere in London.
Yes, I took part in a 6-a-side cricket tournament and was a great afternoon.
