The Role
Fantastic placement opportunity where you will get treated as a full-time employee and work on real tasks and projects, I thoroughly enjoyed my year and would recommend it to anyone looking to apply.
The working atmosphere at Triumph is very welcoming and helpful, where you are always able to ask your colleagues for help.
Weekly workloads and monthly performance reviews were held with my manager to ensure tasks and projects are being progressed in the correct manner, and working closely with managers and supervisors has been very educational and eye-opening. Managers/supervisors can always be approached with questions or requests.
Working in a very small team, the workload was always heavy but manageable, there was never a moment when I did not have any tasks to complete.
As a placement student I was not expecting to be getting the amount of responsibility I was given, starting off in my first week in the job. You get treated like any other employee in the office and get to drive projects yourself. You will get heavily involved in tasks and projects which are business-critical.
I believe my placement year has developed many of my skills, both from a professional and personal perspective. The value of time management and organisation/prioritisation are stressed and training courses are provided for further development of skills identified by yourself or your line manager. I thoroughly believe I will benefit in the final year of my degree, as well as in my future career, from having worked in this role for a year.
The Company
Very friendly atmosphere where everyone is happy to help and questions can be asked.
There was a two month handover period prom my predecessor in the role, which means less of my manager's time was taken up to train me. Inductions with all departments were organised for the first few weeks of the placement which gives a good overview of the business and gives you some useful contacts in different departments. Following the handover period you are then a valued member of the team but also get given guidance needed by supervisors.
Triumph have a partnership with a company called Ted Learning, who provide training courses for many different skills and needs. I attended two courses, Time Management and Personal Effectiveness, within the first few months of starting the placement and these definitely benefited me for the remainder of the year. Regular performance reviews with line managers also help you identify areas for improvement.

My team is very small meaning there is no room for another full-time employee, however I will be able to get a good reference from my line manager in case I wish to apply for other roles within the business.
The Culture
The only downside of the placement; the Triumph HQ is located in Hinckley, which limits the activities available in the area. Hinckley is a very small town and if possible, I would suggest future placement students look to live in Leicester (even though cost of living will be higher). Many placement students looking for accommodation stayed in the Premier Inn for the first month of the placement (Triumph organise this) which allowed for us all to get to know each other. We played 5 a side together and have kept in touch over the course of the year.
Very cheap all-in-all, biking to work and cheap rent enabled for some savings.
I would not suggest going out in Hinckley, there are a few local pubs but not much except for that. Leicester and Birmingham are not too far away but cab fares are still quite expensive.
There are not many additional activities offered by Triumph. I joined the company football team which played a few games.
