The Role
I really enjoyed my time at Microsoft, I was given so many great opportunities to deliver real business impact and to work on some really exciting projects and product launches.
My colleagues were amazing, they always made me feel supported and valued throughout the year.
My manager was great at giving me guidance for improvement, and was always supportive when it came to my development and the work I was doing.
It really varies based on the time of the year and what I was working on, some days you could have the perfect balance, and others you'd be really busy - it suited me though.
I was given a great amount of responsibility on my placement, and by the end of the year I was being acknowledged for managing projects just like any other full time employee would.
The skills I developed on my placement will really help me beyond university as I've gained an understanding of various elements of marketing and this should set me up well to pursue a career in it.
The Company
The atmosphere at Microsoft is great to work in, there's always something going on and people will always talk to you and stop by your desk - you can still get work done though.
I think it varies based on your role and department, my team and product and role were all relatively new and so we were responding to opportunities rather than doing the same tasks regularly, which was much more exciting.
I was really lucky to be given the opportunity to go on an Insights course which was great for my personal development and really showed me how to get the most out of my strengths and colleagues in the work place.

Returning to Microsoft for future employment is really appealing to me - I think the company culture and the types of projects you can be involved in are unlike those at other firms, so I'd love to return.
The Culture
There's at least 100 other people in your intern year, so there's always something going on and everyone's really sociable.
Reading is way less expensive than living somewhere like London, but still not incredibly cheap.
There's genuinely endless opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work, there's sports teams, intern stretch projects and so much more.
