The Role
Very much so - great learning experience
All colleagues were incredibly helpful and supportive
On a regular basis, where he thought necessary and whenever I needed his input
Initially as I became acclimatised to the business and setting up necessary IT systems, it was slow for the first few days. I filled my time with shadowing before I was able to begin actually project work. Over the course of the internship, I accountable for 5 separate projects which meant there was no day I was sat idle. Boredom was never an issue unless it was a manual excel task for example, which was a rare occassion - much of my time was spent solving issues for the wider team.
Naturally as an intern there was only a certain level of exposure I expected. However my manager was keen not to micromanage which meant on a daily basis I was wholly responsible for the completion of my tasks. Where necessary he would suggest people I could contact which was as far as his input went.
I had already completed my degree so there was no direct impact - my degree was not much use to the role itself, attitude to learn and pick up information quickly most important
The Company
Open and friendly - everyone was accessible if I needed help
Quite well organised - intern events/socials all scheduled days or weeks in advance
Had access to the online learning system with opportunities to undertake training in topics related to all areas of banking
Headcount in many areas within the bank
The Culture
Socials were a regular occurence, once a week at a minimum
Quite high, expected for a student in Canary Wharf
Football at lunchtimes or after work once a week
