About You
I have participated in three vacation schemes and the vacation scheme at Hogan Lovells was undoubtedly the most challenging, interesting and exciting placement.
The graduate recruitment team, lawyers and trainees were extremely welcoming - I felt that the vacation scheme students were valued and that everyone wanted us to get the most out of the scheme.
The scheme was extremely well organised: guidance and support were available at every stage. Not only were the graduate recruitment team always on hand to answer any questions, each vacation scheme student was assigned a 'trainee mentor' and also a designated supervisor (a qualified lawyer).
I don't think that the skills which I developed will make much of a difference to my degree studies: the academic study of law and the practice of law are very different. However, the skills which I developed will be very useful in the future when I am a trainee solicitor.
The Company
The structure of the insight was seamless, it was clear that a lot of thought had gone into this.
Interesting and challenging work, welcoming colleagues, friendly group of vacation students, impressive socials.
It definitely felt that the firm had invested in the vacation scheme students. A lot of people gave up a lot of time in order to make sure that the vacation scheme students were welcomed, were given interesting work to do and were able to get the most out of the scheme.
Fantastic insight. I felt that the vacation scheme students were treated as if we were new trainee solicitors.
Extremely helpful. Everyone was very open to talking to the vacation scheme students and making sure we got a proper understanding of what it would be like to work at the firm.
I already knew that I wanted to train as a solicitor at a top commercial law firm. However, the scheme certainly helped to confirm this.
Everything Else
The vacation scheme students were each paid GBP 300 per week.
Yes - many opportunities both during the scheme and also at the social events.
Excellent socials including dragon boat racing and dinner at The Ivy. Socials were well attended by trainees, graduate recruitment, lawyers (of all levels), future joiners etc.
Sports teams, choir, volunteering...
This is undoubtedly one of the best vacation schemes in the City.
