    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • I thoroughly enjoyed my internship at Lloyds Banking Group in the Marketing team as it gave me an understanding of Marketing, the opportunity work with different colleagues and an insight into the Marketing industry as a whole.

    5/5

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • My team and the wider team were very welcoming and included me on every activity from Sports day to a team trip to a local exhibition at Southbank.

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • My manager was very supportive throughout my internship, as were the rest of my team. I felt that f I ever had a question to ask there would always be at least one person willing to help me. I feel this is very important especially during the first few weeks and it enabled me to settle into my role and team very quickly. Before I started my internship, induction days at the agencies which Lloyds work with were already organised as well as meetings with different members of each team within Marketing. This organisation on my managers behalf was incredibly beneficial.

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • On a day to day basis I had the right amount of work which I expected from my internship. I had quiet periods where I could work on projects which weren’t related to my work such as raising money for Children In Need with my Charity Challenge team and for the Retail Challenge which was set for the interns and scholars working within the Retail stream. Due to having a good balance of busy and quiet periods, I have managed to complete the work that I have been set as well as learn more about the bank as a whole through research and meetings with colleagues.

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • During the first few weeks of my internship I was introduced to a new project which my manager was involved in. From this point onwards I contacted the agency that we worked with to ensure that they gave their recommendations on time. This was a lot of responsibility as there was a wider team working on this project so we needed to ensure that every deadline was met. I also completed work for a range of colleagues such as creating packs which were then used during conference calls. I enjoyed having this responsibility as the positive feedback encouraged me to take on more responsibility.

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • Throughout my internship I have completed training such as how companies can create the most effective email to send out to customers which i found very beneficial especially as I would like to have a career within Marketing in the future. I found that at Lloyds banking group there’s constant opportunities to complete different types of training and listen to webinars which are very beneficial as they are not always focused on your current role. Listening to Webinars about social media gave me an insight into the wider group and how social media is used. With this base training it has given me an insight into a career in Marketing and will definitely benefit me after I finish my degree and also give me the reassurance that I have a good understanding. I have also gained many skills during my internship as well as enhancing existing skills. My organisational abilities have improved as well as my ability to manage my communications with the different colleagues and external companies that i worked with on my projects. This skill is highly important especially within Marketing as liaising between client and agencies effectively and efficiently is vital. I will also be able to utilise these skills in my final year of my degree.

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • Very appealing and i would definitely love to work within the Marketing team at Lloyds Bank in the future. They also offer a brilliant graduate scheme which offer more benefits than most other graduate schemes which i have researched.

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • There was a social scene amongst both interns and with my colleagues. As there were over 80 interns working in London there were plenty of people to meet and make friends with during my 10 week placement and in the future. From participating in the Charity Challenge it gave me the opportunity to meet a different group of interns and after having regular meetings we all became close friends. As most interns who work in London live in the accommodation which Lloyds offer, it gives us all an opportunity to socialise more with each other which was one of the many benefits of completing an internship at Lloyds. There were numerous social events within my team from the Sport day which we attended at Hyde Park to visiting an exhibition at SouthBank about how decisions are made. This opportunity to get to know my colleagues outside of work helped me settle into my team quickly.

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • The cost of living during my internship wasn’t as bad as expected as if interns have to commute over 2 hours from home to their site location then they are provided with accommodation in central London which is a perk of the internship which i have rarely seen from any other companies offering internships. The cost of a travelcard for transport around London is fairly expensive however it is possible to walk to work. As expected socialising in London is more expensive than most cities, however there are a range of things to do in the evenings and the weekends which are cheaper and some are free.

    3/5

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • As I worked in The City there are plenty of bars and pubs surrounding my building where you can go for drinks after work.

    5/5

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • Yes there were plenty of opportunities to get involved with things outside of work such as the trip to the exhibition, sports day and events which the other interns organised for the weekends.
