The Role
Really enjoyed my summer placement! I have worked on a live project and was able to apply and develope my skills from university in a professional role. Have also met lots of great people.
Colleagues accepted me into the team straight away and treated as an equal member of the team rather than an experienced student. Have completed activities away from work with the team as well such as weekly 5 a side.
The HR team have organised some good development days for skills such as presentation and team building. My line manager has been great and taken a lot of time to help me develope my skills.
Fairly busy but this still remained a 9 -5 role not having to bring work home that often.
Was responsible for my own work and time keeping, as well working on live projects that were going to make a difference to the buisness!
They skills will be benificial in my final year of studies due but I see the real value of the skills when I leave university and gain full time employment. What I have learnt at Centrica will allow me to the hit the ground running when I leave university.
The Company
Good balance of relaxed professional atmosphere and fun around the office.
Very well organised, even accomodation was provided!
The company take personal development very seriously, To name some highlights: I have had a full days presentation training with an expert, the opportunity to go to a power station to learn more about the industry (all expenses paid!) and a team development day at a nearby university campus.
Flexi Time
Subsidised Canteen
Subsidised/Company Gym
National Travel
Company Parties/Events
Staff Sales/Staff Shop
The graduate scheme is very appealing and you can be reccomended for this from the summer placement.
The Culture
Yes we organised lots of evening activities together such as pub and restaurant trips as most of the south-east located students were based in the same uni halls.
Accomodation was free so this was a worry off my mind but prices for socialising were slightly more expensive than at home.
Wasnt quite the big city nightlife although you could get a train to london if you were desperate.
Yeah, there was something on most nights, especially football!
