The Role
Overall I would say that my summer internship with JLL was enjoyable - both the team I was placed with and HR made an effort to ensure that it was a useful experience for me.
I felt more valued by my colleagues as time went on - over a month-long placement there isn't time to learn enough to do anything particularly skilled, but by the end of the internship I was trusted to complete straightforward work without supervision, which was good.
I never felt that I couldn't ask a question if I had one, although sometimes my team were quite busy and I didn't like to interrupt. My team were also good at taking time to explain what they were doing, which was interesting.
Fairly busy - ironically I was often less busy if the rest of my team were busier, as they did not have time to give me work (and explain how to do it). Generally, however, I had enough to do.
As I said above, there is only so much responsibility you can get over one month. Nevertheless, I felt that the responsibility I was given increased over the course of the placement, to the point where I was able to send work directly to clients by the end.
N/A - I finished my degree before starting the placement. I hope that what I have learnt will be useful for a career in the sector, though.
The Company
Good - the work got done, but it was also quite sociable, and everyone made an effort to include me, which was nice.
Very well organised - a range of talks and social events had been organised for the summer interns, which were good - it was interesting to hear about other areas of the business, as well as to talk to current grads.
We were given IT training at the start of the placement, and my team were good at explaining how to use specific websites and programs. We also had a talk on presentation skills, which was useful.
Very - I hope to get a place on the graduate scheme next year, as I felt it was a good place to work.
The Culture
We met up for drinks after work a few times, but long commutes and tube strikes hampered sociability somewhat.
Expensive - as expected for London. I don't think the placement would have been feasible without being able to stay with London-based friends.
Again, expensive, but there was a lot of stuff to do
I was studying at the same time, so wasn't able to get too involved. JLL did organise some social events, both with other interns and employees, which was good.
