About You
I really enjoyed being in a different environment to university and experiencing what work life is like.
Every person in the office took time to make me feel welcomed, and many people constantly checked up on me during my time there. The socials were all small and intimate but a great opportunity to get to know my colleagues.
Everyone was willing to answer any questions I had or help me at any point. However when given tasks, I was left alone to complete them.
The skills I gained include working in teams, meeting deadlines, communicating with clients, ensuring all my work is quality, having an attention to detail and I also gained many technical skills in the field of auditing/accounting.
The Company
The insight was structured well, will most of the important information emailed to me or documented on the online systems such as Engage or Sapphire. If I had any questions about structure, I could refer to these systems or ask a manager.
The atmosphere of the Southampton office is relatively relaxed and friendly but also very professional. Everyone is able to get along and help each other complete tasks. The teams work well together also. During socials, I found everyone extremely friendly and I was made to feel like a part of the office team already!
I attended a very useful training weekend in Birmingham which helped me to understand more about the company structure. I also had a training day in the office in which I learnt about the computer systems and auditing.
This insight showed me the versatility of Deloitte and displayed opportunities to travel and develop at the firm.
It was extremely useful to learn about the culture of not only Deloitte, but the Southampton office as each region operates slightly differently.
Most of the training was done on job, therefore I learnt a significant amount about auditing on my day to day activities. It appears to be a career path I would like to pursue.
Everything Else
The systems for both payment and reimbursement are very efficient.
We had 2 socials during the insight and also a work lunch near the start of the insight. Also, many colleagues went out for lunch together, which was great for networking.
Everyone is very social at the firm, from associates to partners. The events were a great way to get to know everyone outside of the workplace.
During lunches and general talks with colleagues I was able to learn more about what Deloitte has to offer outside of work.
I would definitely recommend this opportunity!
