    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • I really enjoyed my placement. We were given projects that tested our abilities and forced us to learn new skills, including a new programming language. This meant that I always had something to do and was never left with a task that did not test my abilities in some ways which kept the placement interesting.

    4/5

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • I felt that I was always welcome to ask questions and seek advice but my opinion was also valued from longer term employees when decisions needed to be made.

    4/5

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • There was a lot of "hands off" support where we were told the basics and then had to use our initiative to ask for help at the right time. Whenever we had a question we were more than welcome to ask anyone but we were also left to try to find our own solutions if we wanted.

    4/5

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • I was busy almost every day. With the projects we could put in as much or as little work as possible and so I used my time (and often chose to stay late) to put more effort into the projects.

    4/5

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • I felt that I was given just enough responsibility. I was able to make decisions and organise myself and other people but I also felt that I was encouraged to rely on other people when necessary.

    4/5

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • I think that I have learnt how to organise my time in a working environment and learnt how to prioritise with multiple deadlines with different priorities and different workloads.

    4/5

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • The atmosphere was very relaxed but had a good work ethic which encouraged hard work which I think was a brilliant balance.

    5/5

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • The overall work placement was fairly well organised. We were given good notice of most arrangements and the training and introductory workshops we received in the first week were well planned.

    4/5

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • We were given an afternoon of training in a new programming language along with any other support and training we felt we needed.

    4/5

    5/5

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • I would be very tempted to take a graduate job with the company if offered as I have really enjoyed my time.

    5/5

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • There were both work organised social activities, including an evening walk in Dartmoor and a kayak trip, and lower key activities organised on an ad hoc basis by the full time employees.

    5/5

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • We were provided with accommodation by the company which made living expenses significantly cheaper. Although, the cost of socialising was fairly cheap.

    5/5

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • As it is a student area there is quite a good nightlife although I didn't venture out to experience it.

    3/5

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • There were opportunities to get involved in sports and music within work but also opportunities to get involved in sports outside through the local leisure centre and many places.
