The Role
I really enjoyed my time here at Allianz. It has given me a great experience of a working environment and I feel that I have gained a lot of skills through my 8 weeks here.
I would say that I felt more valued than I would have expected. Everyone was willing to help and teach me if I was unsure about anything and they also gave me more important tasks to do as the placement went on.
My supervisor was very supportive and gave me some good guidance where it was needed. Everyone was always helpful and I was able to learn via interaction with them all, for example in team meetings.
I was fairly busy on a daily basis. There were some times when I did not have enough work but these occasions were fairly rare and I could always ask for more work to do if I had spare time.
At the start, some of the tasks were a bit mundane, but I believe that this would be true of any intern in any company. After the first couple of weeks, I was given fair more responsibility than I would have expected and also got given some tasks which would not normally be given to an intern making me feel valued by the team.
Massively. I had always considered myself to be fairly proficient with computer skills but have learnt so much more throughout this summer. Other areas have improved such as my communication and ability to take the initiative when needed.
The Company
It was a nice office to work in. Everybody seemed to be happy and enjoying their jobs and were always friendly whenever anybody new joined or left.
I feel that it could have been organised a bit better. You could clearly tell that everyone had put in a lot of effort behind the scenes and they had enough work for us to complete throughout our time here. The assessment day and interview process was also very well set out.
I feel Allianz greatly invests in young people when they are coming into the business. They give you a great start in a large firm that many others wouldn't offer, their work and the support given to employees through the graduate programme shows this.

Future employment with Allianz is definitely a prospect that I will consider. They have made me feel very welcome through my time here and have a well established and supportive graduate scheme.
The Culture
There was a good social scene. In our first week we went out for a team meal to get introduced to everyone and there were also trips to the pub after work on some occasions. I developed a very close group of friends with the other interns at Guildford and we often went out for meals and drinks with each other.
I commuted from home which was a little more expensive than I would have liked but would have been cheaper than living in Guildford. Socialising costs were as expected, more expensive for a pint than I would have liked but still far cheaper than London.
Decent. There were a few good pubs and being a student town the nightlife was average, I'd imagine that it would be far more livelier if I was working here during term time.
I joined the football team whilst I was here, each week we went off and played a game at the local sports centre during lunch which was really good fun and a nice break from the day.
