The Role
I enjoyed my placement at BDO. I was given a variety of work to do, and I enjoyed working with my colleagues.
I was working with a different team each week, and after each week I received positive feedback that I had made a good contribution to the team
I had three meetings with my councilling manager, at the beginning middle and end of the internship. I felt I could have contacted him at any other time but I never felt the need.
For the majority of time I had a comfortable level of work. I could always ask for additional work to do, however there were a few occasions where I didn't have enough to do.
I was given responsibility by my team and as much work as I wanted to take on. I was trusted to stay on at a client site on my own
I have gained experience writing a report and presenting it which is something I will have to do in my final year so it was useful to get practice and feedback. I also gained more experience working as part of a team which is something I don't really do for my degree
The Company
Everyone was friendly and there were plenty of opportunities to get involved with social activities.
We had a week of training first together on the Birmingham office and then we worked in our individual offices for the rest of the time before all meeting up in London for the final two days. I think the training prepared us enough for the work even though a lot was learnt on site.
We had a week of training at the beginning
National Travel
Company Parties/Events
I enjoyed the internship and would like to work there in the future
The Culture
There were nights out with all the interns at the beginning and the end, a national football tournament with two nights out and we were also taken out for lunch time drinks when we were in the office. On away jobs I had meals out with my team
I rented a house for about £60 pw. It wasn't too expensive to go out
There is quite a lot of places to go out in Birmingham
There was a national football tournament in Cardiff that I was encouraged to take part in.
