The Role
The internship was a great experience and thoroughly enjoyable. They exposed me to a number of clients and ensured a good balance of time spent at the clients and in the office. The people were great and made me feel welcome and I was kept busy and interested throughout my whole time at BDO.
At times my colleagues were very appreciative of my efforts and made sure they thanked me for the work that I did for them.
I was guided to a degree, however given the setup within the office and the nature of the work guidance was not really required from my manager.
It was ensured that I was kept busy throughout the day. At any point when I had finished the job I was doing my colleagues would give me more work to do.
I was trusted to perform certain sections of the audit and hence was given reasonable responsibility given the length time I was at the firm.
My time at BDO was highly important to my future development and prospects. The skills I picked up and the exposure I gained will certainly put me in good stead and enabled me to develop a strong idea of the roles I will perform and the standard I will need to be at to succeed at a world class firm.
The Company
It was very positive. Everyone wanted to be there and enjoyed working for the firm.
It was very well organised with a week of training in Birmingham at the start and a couple of days at the flagship London office at the end.
The company ensured that I was given a degree of responsibility and made sure that I was welcomed and integrated into the firm. They exposed me to clients and made sure that I had to use and develop many crucial skills. The initial week of training also demonstrated the company's will to teach us and aid our development.
Company Parties/Events
The firm came across very well
The Culture
During the training week and time in London we had planned social events.
I worked in Leicester so the cost of living was perfectly affordable, however I did not really socialise after working hours with people in the office.
I did not go out with people in the office but I'm from Leicester and the nightlife isn't bad.
Yes I participated in the firm's annual 5-a-side football tournament and also went to a curry night. There were further opportunities to participate in other activities.
