The Role
I really enjoyed the placement. BDO took us to Birmingham for 4 days for some training, which was enjoyable. Throughout my time in the regional office everyone was very friendly and welcoming and happy to help.
I was given work at the same level as graduates which made me feel I was valued and the work I was doing was important to the managers.
The management and supervisors were hugely supportive. In the first week I had to ask a lot of questions which they did not mind at all.
I was almost never without work to do, however, I would say that you have to be proactive in finding work as the managers will not over load you with work knowing you are still learning.
I was given a lot of responsibility in that I was working on tax returns in CT and PT alone.
The skills I gained and training received will be hugely useful in finding a grad job.
The Company
The office was quite relaxed.
The week in Birmingham was extremely well organised however the final few days in London were not so structured.
The firm spent 4 days giving basic training which was extremely useful as some of the interns were not from an accountancy background. They also took us to London for the final two days.
BDO seems to be an excellent place to work.
The Culture
I would say in my office, in comparison to others, there was not as much social interaction with the other colleagues, however, the graduates did organise lunches with the interns to make the effort to get to know us.
Relatively average.
During the time I was there, there was a football tournament that you could take part in.
