The Role
I enjoyed my internship a great deal because of the level of trust that was placed in me. From the very beginning I was given tasks that were actually relevant to the line of work rather than just being given admin jobs and I found this very enjoyable.
I felt extremely values by my colleagues. This was displayed in the way my line manager was constantly checking how things were going. In addition, I was asked to work for the same in-charge multiple times and this made me feel valued because they told me the work I had been doing for them was to a good standard.
My line manager was very supporting in a number of ways. On my first day in the office, they ensured I was comfortable with what I would be doing over the course of my internship. They were also extremely quick to respond to me when I had queries/questions.
I was kept very busy for the vast majority of my time spent on my internship. This was great because it allowed me to get the most out of my time with the firm. In turn this made sure I was also to contribute plenty and also learn as many new skills as I could.
I was given a strong level of responsibility throughout my internship. For example, I was trusted to deal with one on one with clients as early as my first week. This was good because it made me feel valued and allowed me to get a feeling of what doing the job full time would actually entail.
Midway through my internship I was sent away for a couple of days training. This was called developing my business insight and involved developing my presentation skills. As a result of this I came away much more confident with speaking to large groups of people and this is something I will take away with me back to my degree and beyond.
The Company
Th atmosphere in the office was mainly very welcoming. I always felt I could approach anyone and ask questions which in my opinion is very important.
The internship was very well set up. I was contacted regularly before starting to make sure I knew what was going to be happening and what was expected of me. There was also a very clear structure to the internship and it was made clear exactly what I had to do to go about trying to obtain a job offer at the end of my internship.
The company seemed to invest a lot of resources, time and money, into my development. This included paying expenses for me to travel down to London for my induction day for example. I was also placed on a training course for two days where I was put up overnight with meals provided throughout my stay.
Flexi Time
National Travel
The future employment prospects within the firm are great. I was made a job offer at the end of my internship and I know a number of other people were as well. It was always made clear upon which criteria I would be judged and this made it clear how I should go about working during my internship in order to obtain an offer.
The Culture
The social scene was particularly good on the away training course I have already mentioned. The manor house where it took place had a bar and games room and this allowed me to meet and get to know lots of the other interns from across the country. I sometimes felt slightly isolated from the other interns when working away at client offices without any other interns there though. I also took part in a fundraising challenge with some other interns which allowed me to get more involved which was great.
I actually lived at home during my internship not actually in Manchester, where the office was based. In general it seemed that Manchester had a good variety of upmarket as well as cheaper places for food and socialising etc though.
I didn't actually get chance to sample any of the nightlife during my internship. From what I've read about online and heard from people though, there are plenty of options for places to go to though so I'm sure if I wanted to go out one night I would have no problems finding somewhere.
There was a national football tournament to get involved with during the course of my internship. I also took part in a fundraising challenge with some other interns which I mentioned above an so there was no shortage of opportunities to get involved with activities outside of the workplace.
