The Role
The internship was pleasently enjoyable, this was mainly because of the accomodation provided at Royal Holloway was of a great standard. This factor definitely seperated this internship from others, living with 30 other SP's outside of work gave us a great opportunity to network and make friends. Also the development days were also great, however I didn't get much time out of the office in my role personally which drops the star rating a bit. Although I know this was not the same for others, nonetheless I enjoyed my time here with Centrica.
At the start I was introduced to the team which was great, they went out of their way to create time in their diaries for me. However I joined at a very busy time for everyone so in the office their was very little interaction and no out of office social events occured to really get to know everyone a bit more.
I found it hard at the start getting to grips with the new working environment when I most needed support, however towards the end when feeling comfortable with all my deliverables I found it much easier to be independent and not have to rely on support as much. However valuable feedback was provided which gave me areas for self-development.
I was very busy on a daily basis compared to most of the other interns I had spoken too, however I enjoyed being given the extra responsibility sometimes jugging 4-6 projects at once. It was never too much work or too little, also all the work which I was completing added value to the business which made me much more motivated to do well in them.
At the start I was giving projects to work on individually so there wasn't much responsibility I could possibly take on, however towards then end the responsibility increased when I became more comfortable with my colleagues and projects.
Here I have developed more skills in 10 weeks then I could have possibly imagined. It has helped me improve my confidence in public speaking and my organisation and time managment skills have improved dramaticially
The Company
Not much would happen in the office, although it was a friendly and professional manner. Little to no communication between colleagues however.
I had a weekly catch-up with my line manager once a week and was giving my full deliverables at the beginning of my placement so I knew what was to be expected from me. Good communication from the Grad team also and everything felt like it ran smoothly.
I have definitely developed over the last 10 weeks from being slow, unconfident and unproffessional in a work environment - to conducting my own training sessions, jugging 4-6 projects alongside each other, being organised and having great communication with colleagues. Apart of this was through development days, weekly catch-ups and feedback however I did have to be independent 90% of the time with my deliverables so a lot of this development could have been through self-development overtime.

Have met all my deliverables to a good standard and the feedback which I have been given some senior staff think I have gone above and beyond the initial project I was initially given. So I would hope I have left a great impression with the team.
The Culture
Couldn't have been better.
Literally as cheap as chips, accomodation was provided so the only expense would have been the nights out which occured once every 2 weeks and was faily pricey. However because the weather was great, it didn't cost much to chill around Windsor and Egham.
Only went out 2-3 times with the SP's, had a really good time every night.
There were sports facilities everywhere on campus, played badminton, tennis, basketball and gym. If you aren't in to sports however then this could decrease your opportunites of getting involved with much.
