    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • The role was good, as I want to work in finance in the future, and this gave me an insight into what working in finance is like. It was a real job with real responsiblities, not just watered down work experience like some people assume placements to be.

    4/5

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • I felt a part of the team straight away, and they all made it extremely easy for me to settle in. I couldn't have asked for nicer people to work with.

    5/5

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • If anything went wrong, they were on hand to help. The only tiny issue is that sometimes I got left to do the little jobs that they didn't want to do, but everything else was fine.

    4/5

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • In the middle of the month it could get very quiet, which would leave me quite bored without a lot to do. However, at the end of the month it got massively busy, sometimes to the point where I didn't have time for a lunch break. A lot of the time I could be either too busy or too quiet.

    3/5

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • I was given real jobs to do, not just small things that aren't important. I had to overlook an entire system, as only me and one other person in the company knew how it worked. I also had a lot of responsibility on the Adecco contract, having to liase a lot with the reps for Adecco and sorting out any billing queries.

    4/5

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • I think the skills I learnt will be very useful in a working environment, but not so much in my degree. A lot of the things that are learnt in the theory side of degrees are not applicable to real life.

    4/5

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • Great most of the time, occasionally people would be stressed and a slightly quieter at the end of the month when it was busy, but mostly happy and lively all the time.

    4/5

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • It was set up extremely well, most things went without a hitch. The only slight issues was when the new students started to arrive it could be slightly unorganised.

    4/5

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • This wasn't really high on the agenda, the main thing was to make sure I was enjoying my placement and had a valued role within the team.

    3/5

  • 10. What were the perks on your work placement?
  • Subsidised Canteen

    2/5

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • Reasonably appealing, I have had a fantastic experience, but this could be partly down the fact that I have a fantastic team and there are loads of students working there, so I made loads of friends.

    3/5

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • There were about 50 placement students in Uxbridge, and out of the 50 I was friends with about 30 so the social life was great! There was a real student vibe, but also colleagues didn't just treat me like 'the student', they treated me as part of the team.

    5/5

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • Reasonably cheap, although rent was quite a lot considering the size of the property I was in.

    3/5

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • Again there was enough to do, but Uxbridge can be a bit dull as there is only Liquid and a couple of bars. However, we went out in Watford, London and Windsor, so there are areas not too far away that have good nightlife instead!

    3/5

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • Loads of things were arranged between the students, and some students also got to go to work events (depending on their job role). There were also a couple of team outings.

    5/5
