The Role
I really enjoyed my year at TUI. My day-to-day role really interested me and the environment and culture of the place is fantastic.
I seemed to fit in almost instantly into my team here and will definitely keep in touch with a lot of them after I leave. People view you as a Full-time colleague and are not patronising to you as a Placement Student
I felt really supported in my time here. I was given 360 feedback from people all around the business halfway through the year, which really aided my development. Fortnightly 1 to 1's with my line manager were a great way to constantly measure and track my progress.
As is the nature of the Industry, there are busier times and times which are less busy. Taking the year as a whole though, I felt I was sufficiently busy without being swamped by my workload.
One of the great things about this placement is the amount of responsibility you get right from the start! I was put straight in charge of Trading my resorts and felt like I had real ownership of them.
I think certainly the skills I've developed with regards to prioritising my time and becoming more organised will definitely help my studies in my Final Year.
The Company
It's a very young and vibrant place to work. People are very results-driven and certainly do work very hard, but what's great is the company manage to do this whilst maintaining a relaxed and fun atmosphere around the office as well.
Bearing in mind the Scheme is run by people who are holding down full-time jobs as well, the scheme is extremely well-run. The placements get given a lot of focus and exposure to the business. Monthly meetings with all of the Placement team ensure the scheme continues to be well managed.
The company invests a lot of time in developing its staff and all employees including Placements work towards a company framework, which looks for certain skills known as TUI Behaviours. How employees perform against these behaviours is frequently monitored in 1 to 1 sessions.

The company is a great place to work and a lot of people come back after their final year to work in their previous role or indeed on the Graduate Scheme.
The Culture
Absolutely, as it's quite a small group of placements, we know each other very well and most of us actually live together. As such, there was a great social scene amongst us. In my team as well, we often went on nights out and did team events. The social side of TUI is without doubt one of my biggest highlights of this year.
Luton itself is quite cheap to live in despite being close to London. The closer you get into London though, which is generally the direction you want to head for evenings out, prices do start to climb rapidly.
In Luton specifically, not great.
Yes definitely, there were options available. A few of us joined company sports teams for example.
