The Role
The main project I came in to help on was the drafting of a sponsorship strategy, but was involved in some PR work also.
I feel I was valued by my colleagues as they didn't look over my shoulder and let me get on with the work, allowing me to prove that I could do it.
My line manager was excellent, if I needed help he wouldn't think me stupid if I asked for it.
I was generally quite busy arranging meetings to gather information relating to the project and if this came tto a standstill my line manager would involve me in some PR work.
I was given the brief for the project and then left to my own devices to work on the project, unless I felt I needed direction.
This placement has particularly given me the confidence to believe in my own writing. It was amazing to see the press release that I wrote in the paper.
The Company
Most people were friendly and approachable and up for some friendly banter.
The placement was very well set up. Everyone was informed of my arrival to corporate communications.
As I was there for only a month, they didn't really have the opportunity to train or develop. However I did learn alot from the knowledge and expertise from many of the people I worked with.
Just to state this placement was unpaid and even though this is the case it has allowed me to identify what I want to do when I graduate. The variety of activities and events the council is involved in greatly appeals to me. I would love to go back and work there, paid next time!
The Culture
There were several other placement students from my university, who i'd never met before. But as there were varied working hours
Average. Not too expensive, but not cheap.
The pub scene is great, clubs could be better.
As it was a council there was always something going on, especially being the summer season there were lots of local festivals.
