The Role
I really enjoyed the Vacation Programme at KPMG and gained a huge amount of experience.
Everyone I worked with was really friendly and helpful. I felt like I was doing useful work - obviously there is a limit of how much an intern can do, but everyone I completed work for seemed to appreciate it.
Any question I asked was always welcomed and explained. Each team I worked with gave me good guidance whilst also letting me try figure things out on my own.
Relatively busy, but sometimes whilst out on an audit, the work could sometimes be slow and my in-charge couldn't provide me with anything to do. This didn't happen too often though.
I think I was given a good amount of responsibility given my level. I was given the opportunity to find things out for myself, whilst also feeling welcome to ask questions.
The skills and experience that I gained from this internship will definitely help me in my studies and my business knowledge in general.
The Company
I wasn't in the office often as I was mostly out on client site.
The internship was definitely career-focused and several presentations and talks were organised for us which were interesting. I was disappointed that there wasn't anything organised for the interns to have the opportunity to get to know one another. Since I came from outside the UK I was hoping to make friends in work to spend time with after work, but I barely met the other interns.
As what would be expected for the role of an intern.
Subsidised Canteen
Everyone I worked with was really friendly and the general atmosphere of the company seems good.
The Culture
As before mentioned, the internship seemed to be more career-focused than social.
KPMG have a great canteen which I would go to for lunch whenever I was in the office. The company provide each employee with just under £4 to spend each day on lunch which was really good. I would usually end up spending about 20p on lunch. I never stayed around the area to socialise.
I did not experience any nightlife near the office.
Not that I was aware of.
