The Role
Amazing!!! My seniors have always trusted me and my judgement to get tasks done. I have never been micro managed, nor given detailed instructions over what to do. My tasks have been blank canvasses, where I could exercise thought and creativity. Everybody has always gone out of their way to help me, and they have always been generous with their time and knowledge, this includes the MD’s and directors who agreed to meet with me.
As mentioned above regarding the work being effectively a blank canvass, I recall a project, where I was asked to give an update over the progress I had made. I responded that I reached out to a team leader in one of the offices in Scotland, and that I was due to have a telephone meeting the next day. I then asked my manager is she wanted to be included in the call, but she said, ‘no that’s fine, I trust you to run with it’. Such trust truly makes you feel valued as intern.
Barclays is really a flat organisation, you can send an email to anyone and your very likely to get a respond, regardless of the person seniority. I have meet with numerours directors and managing directors, purely because I asked to meet with them, no agenda or anything. Given this culture, if ever you’re in trouble, people are always there to help. I am not a Liverpool fan, but at Barclays ‘You never walk alone’.
Very busy, the work given is very challenging, but manageable. Nevertheless, the working hours in my team were extremely generous; I left the office around 6, and for a banking job and probably even a normal job, that amazing. I had plenty of time to pursue my interests outside of work.
This comes down to trust, for example one of the jobs I was given, was articulating the proposition of business area within the bank. I was to create the deck which would be shown to senior management, and outline the strategy and direction of this business area. I would confidently say from this experience, that I was given a tremendous amount of responsibility.
My interpersonal and communicational skills have significantly improved. I have developed strong commercial awareness and a greater appreciation for the financial world. We live in a knowledge economy, so I would believe that this experience will set me up nicely for future advancement in my career.
The Company
Supportive, loving and relaxed.
There were a lot of networking events. We had great exposure, people from the business were very keen to engage with us. All in all very good.
There were trainings, there were talks, there were online readings materials all in all they certinaly invested in us.
Sports and Social Club
Company Parties/Events
I want the Grad role.
The Culture
Yes certinaly, every friiday we meet up for drinks, and went wherever that took us.
Pretty expensive, but reasonable as we were well paid.
What nightlife? Drinks in the bar, then off to a different location.
Yes, and I really enjoyed getting involved with the chairty challange. This is where we helped real charities, with real problems they are facing.
