The Role
I very much enjoyed my internship it was a highly beneficial experience as it gave me what I believe to be a true representation of what it would be like to work for KPMG. I found the work to be fairly interesting and the staff very friendly
I was made to feel very welcome amongst the team , everyone was very helpful. They also were good at making you feel valued in terms of the contribution you were making to projects as a whole and were good at giving constructive criticism
The help and advice that everyone gave me was excellent, even just in casual discussions about my future career. I was quite taken aback by the level of support everybody gave me in advance of my final partner interview
I would say I was given a good amount of work, I was not expected to work late but there was always plenty to do for various people in the office. There was a couple of days between projects where there was not so much to do but the staff did their best to find things to do
I was given the same amount of responsibility that I would get if I were to join the graduate scheme which I would say was good as I was allowed to carry out my work without much intervention but knowing if I needed help it was there, and that my work would be checked by other members of staff.
I don't believe that the experience will be particularly beneficial for my studies but it certainly gave me an invaluable insight into the world of work and definitely helped me in terms of choosing a future career.
The Company
The general atmosphere within the office was very positive with a good team ethic. The average employee age is very young which I found to be great as it meant that it was lively and people socialised together quite a bit.
I thought the program was set up pretty well with a clear recruitment process, which I guess is necessary for such a big firm. The worst thing in my opinion was the assessment centre day which I attended in Leeds even though the majority of candidates were applying for Scottish offices.
There was not a massive amount of structured training it was largely just instruction from the staff who worked there. The only formal training was ethics and independence which I imagine is a legal requirement for all staff to complete.
Subsidised Canteen
Future employment prospects are fairly appealing as it was an enjoyable place to work with a positive atmosphere. Also the opportunities available in terms of it being a global firm are a large attraction to working for KPMG.
The Culture
Yes there was, as mentioned the young average age helped this.
Fairly cheap on a national scale
Good, I'm already at uni in glasgow so I knew what to expect
Yes sports teams and societies seemed to be fairly popular as well as social events
