The Role
I really enjoyed the internship and all the experience I gained. I had a lot of fun and gained a real insight into life at KPMG and I left with an offer on the audit grad scheme for the following year.
They were really helpful in explaining the work to me and they were also friendly which helped me to feel comfortable at all times.
I was assigned to a 'buddy' who was there to answer my questions and I also had a performance manager who I could discuss my progress with towards the end of my internship.
On most days there were enough tasks for me to be working on. However occasionally I would have some quieter days with less to do but I was usually able to look at online training courses to fill the time and help with my understanding of audit.
I was really pleased with the level of responsibility I was given - I was given challenging tasks and I felt that my colleagues trusted me to carry out the work they had asked me to do..
I don't expect the skills developed to help me in my degree studies but they will be really useful when I return to the graduate scheme in a year's time. It's great to already have an insight into the kind of work I will be doing and it has definitely improved my confidence in talking to clients and working with colleagues etc.
The Company
I spent most of my time working in different teams on client site and they were all fun and friendly. I got on well with everyone I worked with.
I was booked onto jobs for most of the time I was there - a couple of times I had to ask to be booked onto a different job if the timings changed but this wasn't really a problem.
Aside from a one day induction, most of the training was on the job but there was the opportunity to do online training courses if you wanted to learn more.

Company Parties/Events
I had an interview at the end of the internship and was straight away offered a position on the grad scheme - doing an internship is definitely the best way to secure an early job offer before you even go back for your final year at uni.
The Culture
I got on really well with the other interns doing audit, although there was little chance to meet others in different divisions of the firm. We were invited to York races on our final day, which was a lovely end to the placement.
I rented accommodation in the centre of Leeds for the 4 weeks that I was working there, and the price seemed to be reasonable. There's a variety of shops nearby.
I didn't go out much while I was in Leeds but there are plenty of bars and pubs in Leeds - probably something to suit everybody's taste.
We were invited to a bbq with colleagues and various meals out but 4 weeks is probably not long enough to really get involved in any clubs/societies within the firm.
