The Role
I have thoroughly enjoyed my time here and I have been given the opportunity to partake in a multitude of activities giving me broad business exposure. I worked in the Internal Audit department putting audit methodology to practise in the first few weeks and focussing on the team's data analytics capability for the last few weeks. I was also able to partipate in company events such as Iain Conn's Strategic Review talks, Funday cycling and canooeing with the team and going on learning visits.
It was an absolute pleasure to be part of the internal audit team as I felt welcomed and respected as a team member, not just an intern. Settling in quickly allowed me to build rapports and made me feel comfortable in the work environment. Consequently this allowed me to excel faster and learn more about the business as I can ask anyone for guidance, help or wisdom.
My line manager was incredibly pro-active ensuring that I received all the necessary support and helped me to settle in quickly. He set up multiple meetings with team members for an introduction and welcome so that I can integrate into the team much faster. Moreover I had weekly catch up sessions with my line manager meaning I always had clear vision of my targets and progress. Lastly we shared the same office it was very easy to informally ask for guidance or talk about my progress.
I was always given multiple on-going tasks/projects which allowed me to switch between them to keep productivity high. What is even bettter is that there were opportunities to push myself and take on more responsibilities allowing me more control over work. For a summer internship the balance was perfect: I was not stressed and at work I was trully motivated and kept engaged and busy.
Keeping in mind that I am not that experienced, I feel that I was given the appropriate level of responsibility. Too much would have prevented me from enjoying my role and it is important to learn from others. Also I was trusted and given more responsibilities as I spent more time with the company which is exactly how it should be.
In terms of assisting my degree, soft skills such as presentation skills and communication will help me to perform better in my final year especially in group work. More importantly this internship has helped me develop my professional etiquette which I feel is a much more valuable attribute to have for future. This intership has drastically opened my eyes to corporate culture, expected behaviours and correct professional conduct which will help me to pursue my career ambitions.
The Company
I think it was a good balance between working hard independantly and able to informally chat with team members. There was a hot-desk system so each day you would sit next to someone different meaning you bond with more people in the team making it a very pleasant environment.
It is clear that my line manager put much consideration into my internship programme to match my interests while being able to learn as much as possible about the whole business. I love the fact that my internship was split into two very different projects which made it a very engaging 10 weeks. On top of this there were multiple activities organised outside my role and there never seemed to be a deadline clash - the structure of my work had a certain flexibility which I think is incredibly important. Moreover the grad team organised various events for personal development/ team building and networking to allow interns to get to know each other better which I thought were well placed.
I was given opportunity to undertake various training but more importantly the company is incredibly supportive of learning day visits / shadowing opportunities to allow students to learn about other areas of the business. Also if my team was partaking in any training activities or workshops I was always invited. I know the company invests a lot more into personal development once you have joined on the grad scheme.

Very appealing because Centrica recognises the importance of bringing new talent into the company so you are presented with amazing opportunities throughout the 3 year grad rotation.
The Culture
The fact that most interns were given accommodation in Royal Holloway Halls drastically impacted social life since it was much easier to organise activities and bond with fellow interns. Also there were multiple events organised for the team such as Funday and leaving meals which helped to socialiase within the internal audit team.
Considering accommodation was paid by the company and there were opportunities to carshare, the cost of living was very low which was great. Windsor and local area in Egham is not so cheap but where is cheap? I thought the prices were reasonable for the area.
There are some places to go out in Windsor but for special night you would have to commute into London especially since there are less people in clubs during off-season and Windsor.
Yes the were multiple events happening in nearby locations such as festivals and air race at the Ascot racecourse. We also had access to facilities like playing pitches and gym meaning there was always something to do after work!
