    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • I enjoyed my placement throughout the 12 months to the point were I extended my contract by another month. It was both challenging and rewarding so I gained a lot of experience.

    4/5

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • I felt quite valued by my colleagues the more I got settled into my role. I worked hard to establish myself to the point were others couldn't believe I was still a student.

    5/5

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • I was given good support throughout the year and help was always a conversation away.

    4/5

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • I was quite busy actually especially towards the end of my placement as i had a lot of responsibility over a lot of stuff within the company.

    2/5

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • The more i knew about the company and different jobs, the more responsibilities i was given. In the end i felt like a regular employee as in I was just as good as everyone else.

    4/5

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • It's helped a lot through the courses I have done and also just being panctual and organised.

    5/5

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • The atmosphere was great within the team and also a few other teams. However there were a few teams that we didn’t get to interact with regularly so it wasn’t so great. With the people who we interacted with, I will definitely be staying in touch

    3/5

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • It was a bit shaky at the start because of the team being restructured a couple of weeks before I started but other than that it’s been very good. I got a lot of support from the company and they always want you to develop as an employee.

    3/5

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • I feel that I received good training from the company, including doing a LEAN Foundation course that is run by Cardiff University. I also got a lot of on the job training which was really valuable as I am now skilled in a lot of software’s.

    4/5

  • 10. What were the perks on your work placement?
  • Staff Sales/Staff Shop

    Healthcare/Dental

    3/5

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • It is very appealing but it’s hard to decide exactly what part of the company I would like to be a part of. But in term of career progression, there are a lot of opportunities.

    4/5

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • There was a good social scene amongst my immediate team and maybe one other team. Unfortunately I was 1 of only 2 placement students, but because I was in a good team, it was great either way.

    3/5

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • It was very expensive considering it was down south. Rent and travel took up at least 60% my salary and that’s before tax and national insurance. So it was quite expensive just living there let alone the cost of socialising. It would be a lot better if I was on a graduate salary or a full employee salary.

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • Night life wasn’t so great. The only way of getting a good night was if you took a 45 minute train to Brighton but you are guaranteed not to get back until 6 am because of the commute back. So the nightlife was a bit tricky

    2/5

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • Personally I didn’t feel like there were a lot of opportunities due to the nature of the city. But If I had more money I would live in a different city and just commute to work so that there are more opportunities and things to do outside of work

    2/5
