The Role
The experience has taught me useable skills and has given me a much better understanding of how I want my career to progress.
I was given real work to complete, and my work has been used to inform business decisions. My colleagues around me offered great support and made me feel like another one of the team, not just another intern...
My line manager was always available for support and help. We had regular meetings and he offered guidance whenever I needed, whilst also allowing plenty of space for me to develop my work myself. There is also a great support network with the Grad recruitment team
I had a manageable workload and never felt overstretched whilst always having something to get my teeth stuck into.
The projects I completed were used for higher level strategy decisions and whilst I was given guidance and support, the work was entirely my own doing. I was impressed at how much impact my work actually had on the business.
The organisation skills gained, the technical skills acquired and the presentation and communication skills developed will have a direct impact on my studies and may be the difference between a 2:1 and a first.
The Company
The office had a very relaxed vibe to it, although you could tell people were working hard, they were generally relaxed and everyone was very approachable. The working hours were very flexible and, although a lot of people work through lunch because of this, there was always someone to chill and eat lunch with.
The whole program was organised well. There were clear milestones and targets and the regular feedback made it easy to keep track of progress.
They held some valuable team building sessions, technical skills training sessions, and a good presentation training event. All were positive events outside of the office. In the office I was supported through any personal development I identified, for me this meant going out to the front line and observing how the engineers go about there daily business, shadowing a project manager, observing high level meetings, and some other smaller scale opportunities. On the whole they supported wherever possible as long as I could identify the benefits to the business as well as to me, they would offer full support.

The grad scheme looks very appealing and the roles available to people coming off the grad program all seem interesting and positive career steps.
The Culture
The majority of interns were based in Staines and stayed in RHUL accomodation. Which was brilliant since there was something to do every night. Be it playing football, pub, Playstation, cinema, eating out... it was a really good social scene.
The accomodation was free and kitchens well equipped, the prices when out and about were reasonable, you could get decent meals for £15 including drinks...
They offer a charity project that could keep you busy in the evenings if you wanted, or there were plenty of sporting clubs across the business that I was able to get iunvolved in.
