    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • I extremely enjoyed my time at KPMG, I felt that it exceeded all expectations, not only for how interesting the work was, but also for responsibility of the work given to me.

    4/5

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • I felt valued in my time at KPMG. I spent every day in between my first and last day away at client sites, making the most of the opportunity and gaining a real insight to what audit is.

    5/5

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • I felt that there was adequate support - not only on my first day in the office, but also throughout the internship whilst at various clients. In particular I found that not only were the graduates approachable but also that the more senior members of staff were quite happy to spare their time to talk me through various tasks.

    5/5

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • This varied - There were times that I was given tasks that would be enough to last me a few days, but also a few infrequent occasions where I was looking for more work. This was not a problem however, as you are given an office email to send round an email to various grades, telling them you are free to help with anything - meaning you were kept very busy!

    4/5

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • I felt like I was given a lot of responsibility during my brief 4 weeks at KPMG. This made me feel more valuable in the team, and gave me a better experience of auditing.

    4/5

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • The skills I learnt are not specific to my course, but having to speak to senior clients and other individuals of authority on a daily basis was something that increased my vocal confidence.

    5/5

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • As stated earlier, I didn't spend much time in the office, and most individuals in the office seemed to be out at client sites. The atmosphere at the clients with the other KPMG employees was great, and I found that it was quite easy to build an amicable relationship.

    5/5

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • Overall I was extremely happy with the set up of it, mainly due to the graduate recruitment team, and how they handled the applications. The only point to note was the locations of the internships. Some individuals were allocated offices far away from where they live (such as myself) and this means paying for accommodation. The pay more then covers this though!

    5/5

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • They kept all of us happy throughout and I did feel like I was able to learn a lot about basic audit in my month vacation scheme.

    4/5

  • 10. What were the perks on your work placement?
  • Flexi Time

    Subsidised Canteen

    National Travel

    3/5

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • Very appealing, I have already received and accepted my job offer following a successful interview.

    3/5

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • There was only two (including me) in the office I worked in, but when we did spend time together we got on well, and this was helped by the social lunch out on our first day.

    4/5

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • It was quite expensive as I stayed in a B&B for the month. But the pay more than covered it.

    4/5

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • Non existant

    3/5

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • I have heard there are a lot of sport and social related activities that go on, but I wasn't there long enough to find out about it.
