The Role
The placement was a thoroughly enjoyable experience. I had the opportunity to work on huge client projects, learn from some of the best people in the industry and make great friends.
I was a client facing employee expected to perform at graduate level and so made real contributions to projects. I took on significant responsibility and was able to deliver real results.
There is a real commitment to personal and professional development at KPMG. I learnt a great deal on the job from my seniors who recognized areas for improvement and helped me to develop, whilst also utilizing my strengths.
Workload varies throughout the year and the responsibility is on you to manage this. During quiet periods there was always something to do, whether that was working to win new work, attending training or industry events, or helping to build new service lines.
I was expected to perform at graduate level so was given a lot of responsibility as I became ready for it. You will be pushed, but only as far as you are comfortable with, and in line with your own development goals.
The soft skills learnt during the year will be very valuable and the technical skills will also help with my final year of engineering study. I have a graduate offer from KPMG to will be sure to make use of what I have learnt this year!
The Company
You are working with like minded individuals passionate about the exciting work they do. The senior members of staff are very approachable and enjoy engaging with the consultant of the future! The offices in London are very high quality and are a very nice place to work. This makes for a great atmosphere where you can learn, have fun and work hard.
The placement is very similar to the first year of the graduate scheme so there is a very good framework in place for managing your development and helping you in your early career.
There are compulsory annual training hours so staff are continuously learning and developing. As a new joiner there were several compulsory training courses, optional courses, and residential courses, including KPMG's famous Core Consulting course.

KPMG has a broad range of services and great scope for career development to a very senior level with industry wide recognition. You are promoted based on your skill level so the sky is the limit!
The Culture
There was a huge graduate in-take who you work alongside. You will make some great friends with your graduate colleagues and seniors.
London is very expensive but the pay very adequately covers all expenses.
London is a bustling and exciting place with hundreds of bars, clubs, restaurants and everything in between.
There are numerous social groups, societies and sports clubs. There are also plenty of social events and events organised by graduates outside of work.
