The Role
A great and supportive place to start your career.
Being part of a 3-man team I really felt valued. However it's difficult to be valued when you are so much less knowledgeable so it is all a learning curve.
My LM was excellent with regards to contact time, having a 30 minute 1-on-1 meeting every day. However I know this was not the case for almost all other interns.
Given a few significant projects, I was never left with nothing to do.
In a relatively niche role, I was given the most responsibility that an intern really can get on the Wealth program. Of course you're an intern so very few actions went through unchecked.
Degree wise not that much applicable, but invaluable life skills are learnt in your first job.
The Company
Not too busy and not too dull- a very calm and friendly office.
Original communication not amazing but very well designed once you join.
There was only 1 day of formal financial training, however my line manager invested a lot of time and effort into my personal development, something that I'm very thankful for.
Sports and Social Club
Subsidised/Company Gym
Company Parties/Events
Working from home
In the Wealth Industry Barclays is at the very top in the UK.
The Culture
Social events were mainly work based- but most were proactive to organise things outside of work too.
London is a very expensive place, in partcular canary wharf
Great for drinks, no clubs.
Various charity and sports events to do, if you're proactive.
