    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?

    • RBC Academy is an excellent programme which takes on a few interns at a time so it is enjoyable to share experiences with your peers. The programme is tailored to make students have much better skills, both hard and soft.

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?

    • Even though an investment bank is a very busy environment, managers always strive to make time for you to help, guide and even just generally speak to you. I was able to present to my managers which they also made time for.

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?

    • I was given a set of guidelines for a project and was left to complete it which was great as it allowed me to use my initiative.

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?

    • Since I was only given a project I worked on that from day to day. I would have been more occupied if I was able to do some of the department's business as usual work which I was trained to do. RBC Academy projects generally keep students busy during their spare time which is also a good way to be occupied.

    • I was fully responsible for my project and responsible for presenting it to my managers.

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?

    • RBC Academy aims to give students a wide set of skills. Not only the skills that are picked up from the workplace but we specifically went on a trip to a famous theatre to do a workshop on "presenting our best self" which was amazing.

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?

    • Very bubbly office, always laughter across the floor and a very happy/ positive atmosphere. Due to limited desk space I felt left out from this since I had to sit far away from everyone on my team.

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?

    • RBC Academy has a set calendar and adheres to it which is fantastic and makes it very organised which is exceptional since it is only organised by a small team of people.

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?

    • Everyone in he company is supportive of personal development and this is amazing. They always are happy for you to shadow them and the RBC Academy strives to do this through other activities and projects.

    • Subsidised Canteen

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?

    • Very. A lot tof room for progression within the bank.

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?

    • Extremely. Everyone gets along well and the group is very close and supportive of one another, even the new intake. The older students will have known each other for a few years and some even attend the same universities so it is a very friendly place and everyone supports each other.

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?

    • Being in the City of London it does not come very cheap. There are some places that are reasonable but if you want a better price it is probably best to go to Zone 2 and beyond.

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?

    • Nightlife is reasonable but it is for the people that are always in the area: people that work in the city. Therefore it is not as enjoyable for students like us however you can still have a good night out regardless. There are many local clubs and bars more associated with a younger age group nearby which may be more enjoyable for some.

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?

    • Not as many as the previous year but we are occasionally sent emails of such opportunities which are often linked to charity.
