The Role
really enjoyed it - a well designed program with reasonably important work given to iterns
I felt very valued by my colleagues. The internship is very well respected throughout the company and colleagues were extremely welcoming and interested in helping as much as possible.
I was given excellent support and guidance. I never felt like there was anything I couldn't ask.
It varied - I could essentially make myself as busy as I wanted to be. The nature of the work I was given meant I could do it really well and be really busy, or do the bare minimum and be less busy. I was definitely given the opportunity to have a lot to do.
A lot over my own work but the work was obviosly within the remit of my limited skills so I never felt like anything I did could negatively affect the business, only positively affect it.
The time management and proactivty I have learnt will be invaluable to my final year of study. The confidence gained in simple things like emailing and aksing questions will also aid me in my studies.
The Company
It was a friendly working atmosphere. The freedom to work pretty much when you want is great. I was really pleased with the responsibility I had for my own time which meant I had flexibility to do what I wanted to as long as the work also got done.
Very well organised. I was impressed with the amount of opportunity the internship presents.
There is a huge emphasis on personal barnd which at Barclays is definitely important.
Subsidised Canteen
Sports and Social Club
Subsidised/Company Gym
Company Parties/Events
Very appealing - the company is great if it has the job you want to do.
The Culture
Yes, very much so. Interns are encouraged to build relationships not only to make the summer more enjoyable, but also because the network will be "invaluable" in future.
It's expensive but it's London and you are compensated accordingly.
There is a big bar culture in Canary Wharf, it is very sociable and a really nice place to go for drinks or dinner after work.
Yes, there is a citizenship challenge which groups interns from accross the program to solve a real life problem for a social enterprise or charity. There are also lots of sports teams to get involved with if you're that way inclined.
