  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • It was brilliant, very interesting, varied and a lot of support.

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • Very valued, they gave me challenging work and little guidance with the confidence that I would be able to complete it and were there if not. They gave me many important tasks and trusted I did them well as well as giving me constant feedback.

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • The support and guidance was brilliant. Line manager was very supportive as were the rest of the team and enabled me to fit in really easily. HR were also very supportive and kept in contact with us for the duration.

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • I was busy with certain tasks but definitely not overworked. I was able to work throughout the day but did not need to exceed my working hours greatly to finish off the work.

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • I was given a lot of responsibility considering I was only there for 9 weeks, some weekly and monthly tasks as well as business changing projects and presentations to much senior colleagues.

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • It was a brilliant way to develop my skills with multitasking, prioritisation, organisation as I had a lot to remember in terms of my to do list and various meetings as well as my people skills as I spent a lot of time meeting colleagues and was also given the opportunity to shadow a client meeting even though it was not part of my business area.

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • Quite relaxed and very friendly. Very easy to work in without feeling pressured and uncomfortable.

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • HR were a bit slow in terms of correspondence but once the internship had started the team were incredible and the talks and presentations we were able to attend were very well organised and great.

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • The firm really give you all opportunities even though you are an intern. They really invest time and trust in you. I was allowed to attend a board meeting within my business area even though this covered confidential matters so that i would get a better business understanding and people really made time to talk to you about their roles and help you.

  • Manager is very encouraging about giving me a future job and hopefully this will materialise.

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • Yes there were drinks every Friday and nights out, a picnic on one of the Saturdays as well as leaving drinks and welcome lunches with the team.

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • London is of course expensive. Especially Canary Wharf, but worth it if you can live at home and Barclays gave us relocation money so very supportive and not expensive for interns.

  • London has an incredible night life and there is a great after work buzz around Canary Wharf.

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • We were offered the opportunity to get involved with a Citizenship challenge as well as charity events and other events, if anyone felt like they had missed out on anything, HR would go out of their way to find something equal to get you involved with.
