The Role
The internship was very enjoyable and well structured by very competent HR. I think it was a great learning experience and an excellent occasion to understand the working environment within a big corporation such as Barclays. Moreover it allowed me to make up my mind on which should be the direction of my career. The only downside was that I was assigned to a role which did not really fit my skills and interest, but I evetually adapted fast.
At Barclays everyone was extremely kind and polite. Everyone in my team was ready to help and answer my questions. I also networked quite consistenly within other departments and most of the people was availale to meet me and made their best effort answer my questions.
My manager was very busy yet always keen on meeting me to discuss my progresses and work.
Unfortunately because of the nature of the work of my team, nothing could be delegated. This resulted in me not be busy at all. However Barclays has plently of resources from where you can learn new things, therefore I used those to keep myself busy,
Once again the task of my team could not be delegated to an intern. Therefore I was given no responsibility.
The skills I developed will surely help in every job I will take in the future because of their transferable nature. Moreover, the opportunity to network was very valuable for me to understand which career path would suit me best.
The Company
Barclays has flexible times and it is a corporation which values its employes. This resulted in a relaxed athmosphere. Moreover, everyone in the bank seems to be ready to help each other, and competitivness among co-worker is very rare.
The HR organised the internship in much detail, including events where it was possible to network with very senior memebers in Barclays. The only downside was that few people including me was allocated to roles which did not really match their interest. As a suggestion I would say to put more thought in what interns really want to do.
Barclays invested a lot in the summer internship programme. The HR organised many events where Ds and MDs took time to talk to us, contribuiting to our development.

Barclays is a top tier bank, therefore it is appealing to anyone who want a career in banking.
The Culture
Intern were all very friendly. I don't go out much but I was neverthelss invited to go out and meet for drinks.
London is undoubtely an expensive city, therefore the cost of livign is very high and socialising as well. Yet I believe that this higher expenses are reflected in higher salaries.
Canary Wharf is pretty much death at night, but the city is close by.
Barclays did not organise any activity outside work, yet the interns did.
