The Role
I really enjoyed my internship and learnt a lot from it. The work was interesting and challenging, and the internship was well structured with lots of different learning experiences.
Even though you can't do the same work as your team, you are treated like them which is good. Colleagues were interested in you and valued your input, which is great as an intern.
My managers were great in giving me a lot of time just teaching me about their desks and daily tasks, and were always happy to spend extra time making sure that you understood everything. Supervisors even if busy were very good at helping me towards solving any problems I encountered in my work.
The tasks I was given weren't particularly time-consuming, but there were always something to do - such as preparing for a weekly market wrap or trading game with other interns. You are also encouraged to spend time sitting on desks other than your own, to get a better idea of what exactly each desk does, and to meet and network with as many people as possible - all of this keeps you fairly busy.
You can't be given the tasks a real trader would - however the projects I completed were useful for my team, so you have the responsibility to make sure that the work you complete is accurate and to a high standard.
I have a much better knowledge of financial markets than I ever did before, which you can't really get from reading a book. This will be very useful to me in the future as I now have the skills needed to retain this knowledge. I think all the skills I have learnt during the internship will be very useful to me both in my degree and in any future job.
The Company
The atmosphere was good - people were generally very positive and happy to speak to you. It was a nice place to work and I enjoyed being at work.
The internship was very well organised. There were so many learning oportunities set up for us each week - including teach-ins, the speaker series, and market wraps.
It seemed everything about the internship was to enable us to get as much as possible out of it in terms of personal training and development. A lot of time was spent in training sessions to increase our knowledge of financial markets and the firm.

They seem to be expanding which is a good sign. It seems like a interesting, challenging place to work so I'd like to get a job there.
The Culture
We had drinks after work every week and all the interns got along well.
London is expensive to live in, but that's to be expected, and there is an accommodation allowance. Socialising can also be expensive but it depends where you go.
There's lots of nice places to go out nearby, in Shoreditch for example.
There wasn't much in the way of activities to get involved in outside of work, but you don't have a lot of time for that anyway. You're only there for nine weeks so you want to make the most out of the time that you have there.
