The Role
Difficult at times, and required a lot of work. Very enjoyable and beneficial if you put the effort in
Treated as a full employee. It is understood that you will not have all the skills that a graduade will come to the job with but there are plenty of opportunities to learn new things on the job, and by the end of the year, you can have a lot of responsibilities if you want them
Expected to be independent, but where help is needed it was always given.
Very dependent on the workload of the team at the time
by the end of the first 6 month placement I was responsible for the deliverables of a team of 5 contractors.
Lots of soft skills. Perhaps the engineering skills won't be so applicable as they were very specialised
The Company
Good team atmosphere. Everyone friendly and helpful most of the time.
Structured. Well managed by HR.
Not much specific on the job training. I was expected to pick up most skills. There are training courses available for many roles though, and lots of interns are able to get a lot of beneficial training. I just happened to have roles that didn't match many of the training courses.
Flexi Time
Sports and Social Club
Subsidised/Company Gym
Financial Bonus
Company Parties/Events
Haven't committed myself to working with the company again in the future, but am aware of how I could get back into the company, and I believe the placement will be very beneficial in helping me getting back in if I want to
The Culture
Started well, but dropped off a quite a lot after a while. Had lots of university friends around so I tended to just go out with them
Bristol pubs and clubs can be pretty expensive. Harder to go out in the weeks and weekends are pricy after getting used to student nights out
Lots of good small clubs and pubs.
Some opportunities, but often not publicised well
