The Role
I got given a great deal of responsiblity on my placement and a lot of projects to complete, however some of the tasks were quite repetitive and I'm not sure if I'm interested in this type of work.
The team I worked for were very friendly and easy to get on with and made me feel very welcome. They also showed great trust in the work I did and let me get on with things and do them on my own.
The team I worked in were always happy to help me if I had problems and were easy to approach.
I found in my role I would have days where I had lots of work to do or very little. No two days were the same but some days did feel to drag on a bit.
As the year progressed I got given more responsibility and took part in projects for other teams by myself and without people from within my team helping.
I think the practical skills I learnt will help me in future jobs, such as developing my database and excel skills although I don;t think there are other skills that will help me in my final year of my course.
The Company
I worked with other students and there was generally always a good fun atmosphere in the office. We did several things as a team, such as going out for meals, which made it a lot more fun.
It didn't seem too organised as the person in HR who was responsible seemed very disorganised and things weren't planned through much. Also my line manager wasn't sorted till after a month of being here as the peron who hired my changed jobs.
There were lots of online training to participate in but it depends on how much you want to get out of it. Could have done a wider range of activities to expand my personal training.
Staff Sales/Staff Shop
There have been a lot of cuts made recently and future prospects don't look great but when they do hire they do look to bring back previous students.
The Culture
Xerox employees a lot of other students and this is probably the best thing about the placement. It makes for a more relaxed atmosphere and a lot more social aspects such as the annual booze cruise on the Thames.
Not as much as central London but still quite expensive.
Nightlife in Uxbridge isn't great, there is only one nightclub that isn't amazing but you aren't far from central London for great nights out.
There were 5 a side matches on a weekly basis between colleagues but apart from that there wasn't too much else.
