The Role
I really enjoyed my internship with EY over the Summer of 2015. The induction at the start was very informative and set me up really well for the rest of the 6 weeks. I had the opportunity to do a wide variety of work so I learnt a lot and had a really great time.
I felt really valued by my colleagues. Despite having to ask many questions, they were always willing to help and support me. The opportunity to get unsolicited feedback was very valuable as it was a good way to understand how I was performing.
The support network was great. Having a Buddy (a graduate) and a Counsellor (a Manager) worked really well. As I worked with both on a client it was a great opportunity to get to know them better as well as for them to see my development. They were always willing to help and support me. The opportunity to shadow a Partner/Executive Director was also a valuable experience.
I had plenty of work to be getting on with, whether that be related to the client I was working on or other bits and pieces us Summer Interns were asked to do. I was never overwhelmed but there was never a dull moment where I didn't have enough work.
I was given a fair amount of responsibility as I was tasked with completing several steps of the audit. A lot of responsibility came with interacting with clients as I had to set up several meetings with them to ensure I had all the information necessary.
I have learnt so much during this internship...it was like being back at university! The skills that I have learnt will be invaluable in the future and ones that I will use frequently. They will also be incredibly useful in the final year of my degree.
The Company
I was hardly in the office as I was based on client sites for most of my internship, however the atmosphere on client sites was great. We were able to have a laugh and have good conversations, but as long as the work was completed and the quality of the work didn't suffer!
It was well organised right from the start. The indication we had was very informative and the communications we got prior and during our internship was very timely and relevant. It was slightly disappointing our final event got cancelled, however our office still put on a lovely leaving do.
There was a lot of investment in us, from the useful indiction sessions to shadowing a partner/director to the feedback we got to the on the job guidance we received. There were many opportunity to develop oneself and it was all very useful.

Very! I would love to work with EY if I am offered a graduate position as I have really enjoyed my 6 weeks with them over the summer...the weeks really flew by!
The Culture
Being based on a client site, the social side was rather limited. However, I did go out for meals with the team that I was working on. It was a great opportunity to get to know each other better outside of the daily work environment.
Cambridge is a very expensive city, however as one is based all over the Eastern Region the costs balance out in the long run.
I did not experience the nightlife during my internship with EY, so I am unable to comment on this aspect of the internship.
There were some, but limited opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work. Being based at a client site made this a challenge due to the travel required. However, our audit team did manage to meet up a couple of times for dinner which was lovely.
