The Role
I really enjoyed my time at KPMG, I found the work varied and interesting throughout my placement. The people I worked with were always friendly and helpful, making my placement a great environment to learn about Audit.
Felt well valued by my colleagues, was given responsibility and work to do, with the people I was working with always grateful for my help to save the rest of the team time.
I worked with a number of assistant managers who were always happy to answer any of my questions and give their time to talk me through tasks for me to complete.
Varied day by day, but I was generally given enough work each day to fill my time. If I asked for more work I was always found extra tasks to complete.
I was given responsibility over small tasks from the beginning. My responsibilities increased as the weeks went on, as I was trusted to communicate with the clients freely in order to complete my tasks.
I gained a great insight into the working environment at KPMG, which has given me a great insight into working in a large corporation in the future.
The Company
The office itself was very friendly, but usually quiet as a lot of the team were working at the clients. Everyone was always friendly though where you could both work and have conversations.
The placement was very well organised from the beginning, with an induction day to begin with and then close support for the 4 weeks from my performance manager. I also had a day with the office senior partner, which was a great experience.
I felt the company invested a great deal in me, with my colleagues always offering me the training I needed to complete the tasks, as well as giving me a broader understanding of Audit and working for KPMG.

At the end of my placement I had a performance review and partner interview. I was offered a job during my interview for after graduation and was even able to change the office I'd be working at after after university.
The Culture
There was only two interns at our office so socialising was pretty limited. We were able to socialise with many of the other younger employees at the company though.
The cost of living in Preston is cheap I believe. I didn't do loads of socialising, but went to some nice pubs and restaurants.
Didn't go out much on my placement as I travelled home on the weekends. Theres a good student scene in the city though and its not far from Manchester on the train.
On one of the days the whole office went to a community centre to decorate to help out the local community, which was a great way to have banter with my colleagues.
