The Role
The internship has provided invaluable experience in the corporate industry, I have learnt lots on what it means to be working in this sector, and have enjoyed my time here.
My colleagues are all incredibly friendly and helpful, and I really feel that I have been able to contribute to the team.
During my internship I have had two managers, both if which were more than happy to take the time to listen to my opinions and make sure that I felt comfortable with my role.
This varied depending on projects I was working on, and also how many meetings and workshops I had to attend. Some days I was able to get on with my objectives, whereas for others I sometimes has too many meetings to make progress on other projects.
I have been responsible for quite a large project, which was a price of work that hadn't been done before by anyone in the department, and finished in a report and presentation on my solutions.
I have been able to learn unfamiliar concepts very quickly and apply them to my work. I have also gained confidence in contributing ideas to meetings with people who have been in the company for a very long time.
The Company
My office was very relaxed and professional, I was encouraged to build relationships with everyone, and they were all willing to help me with any issues I had.
My managers set me several objectives to complete during my internship, I had the responsibility to work on these projects how I saw fit and manage my own time.
I was required to complete online training, however as I was only there for 2 months there wasn't a large scope for the business to invest more training into the interns. However the graduate scheme does do this more successfully.
The graduate scheme seems to be very well organised from what I have heard from current grads on the scheme. They put a lot off effort into training, and ensuring that the experience is worthwhile.
The Culture
The interns in my function arranged several social events to keep in touch and allowed some insight into some of the other roles.
I was based in canary warf in london which is generally very expensive, particularly for accommodation cost. However I travelled I from the other side of London so it was a bit cheaper, however meant I had to factor in the cost for transport.
There are plenty of bars and pubs around in canary warf, and there are always events taking place, it is a really vibrant place.
There were many organised sporting events, and opportunities for volunteering in the local communities. I was involved in volunteering with my team towards the beginning of my internship.
