The Role
The job was demanding, but there was great opportunity to learn and every opportunity was given to attend relevant lectures and seminars at places like the IMechE. The job has helped me learn and grow so much, and given me valuable experience to draw back on at Univeristy and in future jobs.
There was a very friendly atmosphere within the work place, with everyone giving you time when you needed help, and also listening intently and valuing your opinion.
Time was always allocated when there were issues, and many trips were funded to attend lectures and seminars at the IMechE and go to exhibitions to learn and make contacts within industry.
As projects came to a close, meetings were held to suggest or find other projects to ensure that there was always interesting work to do.
As a placement student I was given a lot of responsibility, by being able to run projects, and give presentations and hold meetings with people throughout the business both in the UK and in America.
Valuable skills were learned both with regards to process, testing and hands on experience, presentation and report writing skills, analysis, and learning about new technologies, all of which will be useful for future employment, but also for university projects and dissertations.
The Company
Everyone was friendly, and events outside work were often organised to have dinner or go out for drinks.
The organisation was very good, and there was even a meeting with all the placement students organised before the placement started to help search for accommodation.
Many trips were made to the IMechE for lectures and seminars, as well as visits to exhibitions to learn about new technologies and make contacts in industry.

Working from home
There is a very good chance that I will be able to get a job when I leave university.
The Culture
there were a good number of other placement students across departments, as well as social gatherings with employees.
Living and rent was quite cheap, nights out were more expensive then usual student nights.
Night life in the local area was not great, as there are no universities nearby, and not many clubs but plenty of pubs. Kent Uni is only a 20 minute drive away and the placement was only roughly an hour away from London by train.
there are many local sports clubs, and with the beach so close there were many surf and sailing schools around.
