    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • I did not enjoy it much because it was not well organised and the project that was assigned to me was not challenging enough. My expectations were much bigger compared to what I got during the internship.

    2/5

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • In general everyone was friendly and willing to help, however, me as an intern was mostly ignored in the team. I could not participate in my teams daily meetings and was not even added to our teams mailing list.

    3/5

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • I had quite a few people who managed my work, however, all of them were really busy working on some other projects and did not have enough time or interest to analyse in depth the project that I was working on.

    2/5

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • I was not really busy. I was mostly bored because the scope of my internship project was very small. Moreover, I had to spend quite some time waiting for other people to finish their work e.g. designer finish design.

    2/5

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • I was working on a separate module for an existing project and it was up for me to decide how do I want to design and implement it. However, I could not make many changes for the existing project even though sometimes they were necessary.

    4/5

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • I will soon find out. I spent quite some time learning about various new technologies which will probably be useful for my future career. Most of the new things that I learned are really practical so I do not think they will be helpful for my studies.

    4/5

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • It was quite dull. There was not much happening in the office. Overall the environment was really restricted. Moreover, most of the employees did not seem to be interested in their work. On the other side, there were always some interesting conversations happening somewhere on the floor.

    2/5

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • 3/5

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • The company invested in my quite a lot as there were quite a few video conferences which helped to understand company's culture and I was assigned a bunch of online training courses about compliance, work ethics and similar things. Video conferences were interesting, however, the courses were completely useless. So it invested a lot but I did not benefit from it.

    3/5

    1/5

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • The company does not allow its graduate employees to choose the team they want to work in. It does not even guarantee that a graduate who wants to work as a developer will be working as a developer rather than business analyst or similar.

    1/5

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • 3/5

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • It was relatively cheap compared to other cities in UK. The costs greatly depend on the area you live in but its much cheaper to live in Glasgow than in London or Edinburgh. The costs of socialising are quite similar to other places in UK which is quite expensive.

    3/5

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • Glasgow is very nice city which is famous for its nightlife. There are tons of nice bars and nightclubs all over the city. There were some events taking place every day. The office in the city centre so nightlife in the are is fantastic.

    5/5
